USE: Retail Storefront

LOCATION: Somerville, MA

DATE CONSTRUCTED: 2014 (Proposal)

AREA: 200sf Storefront, 1200sf Workshop

The Open Bike proposal treats a bike fabrication workshop as a storefront gallery, putting craftsmanship front and center.

The storefront is connected to an active fabrication shop at the basement level. This clears the street level space for the display of finished bikes when they are ready for pickup. A continuous “peg board” around the perimeter allows display hooks, bike racks, and lighting to plug into the grid lining the walls and ceiling, creating a configurable space to showcase work and custom products.
